Adventures in Creative Writing: Prompts
So I haven't told anyone this, but I've started teaching a Creative Writing class! :) It's fun, but unfortunately, they didn't advertise it properly and so I have only one student. I have a few writing prompts here that I've collected and wondered which ones were the most interesting to do and which helped with writer's block. I invite anyone interested to try one of the following prompts out to see if they help with stimulating ideas. LiteratureSestina: Working on Our Walls
That October after, I saw a man working on a wall, coating its outside with cement to postpone its death just a little longer, while around him, crowds of people walked by without a glance, and the wall turned a dark gray. Ruin and rage whispered through the hidden cracks, the gouges, the scrapes, the passersby, our blood. It’s been only a short while since terrorists took the blood of innocents, of New Yorkers from Park Place to Wall Street, only a short while since towering infernos cracked and rained down paper, cement, stone, metal, death. Those New Yorkers witnessed, faces somber, shocked, gray, as instead of more rubble falling from the fires, it was people. And I, safe at school—over 2,001 miles away—watched those people watch neighbors cartwheel down. So your deviation (specifically Literature) ended up in the Sta.sh Storage. "Why? Why did it go there? Why must I edit there now?" you may scream to the universe. Once you realize everyone nearby is staring at you, calm down and read on. The only way for your deviations to get in Sta.sh Storage is if you didn't click on the "Submit Now" button at the end of the submission process (the second submit request I discussed in step #12 in my "How to Submit Literature on DA" tutorial). If that happens, DeviantArt automatically (and thankfully) saves your deviation to Sta.sh Storage, just in case you didn't mean to leave before clicking that 2nd Submit. Trust me, people, this is a *good* thing. If you unintentionally (or intentionally) exited before finishing the submission and wish to retrieve and/or edit, and submit your saved work, you must now use the Sta.sh Storage.
