Latest viral TikTok video exposes content creator stating false facts about using AirDrop on iPhone

AirDrop does not have access to the bank cards in your Wallet

Don't believe everything you see in a TikTok video and more when ensure a fact which is not possible and which is not designed to do so. This is a viral video on the iPhone and AirDrop where it is warned that Apple's native functionality can be used to provide access to “everything on your device” including the information you concentrate in Apple Wallet. The video was uploaded by the account @vanessaromito13.

Is it possible to steal information with AirDrop? NO

It's incredible how much false information you can find on the Internet, especially when it comes to viral content made on video. The worst part is that no source is provided on this fact, It doesn't exist because it's not possible to steal information with AirDrop. In the content creator's video, she says she needs to go to the Settings app to turn off the use of AirDrop.

If you just updated your iPhone, don't scroll. You need to go to Settings, go to AirDrop and tap “Search with other iPhones”.

His argument is that he updated his iPhone a few nights ago and I saw someone inside TikTok exposing a feature which comes with “the damn new update” and that Allow anyone to touch your iPhone as they walk past you and have access to your entire device. Does what you are saying make sense? This has nothing to do with AirDrop and in the case of sending files with any iPhone, the feature is disabled after 10 minutes and only has access to files that the source device wants to send.

On the other hand, there is a feature called Control Nearby Devices but this should only be used with one Apple account. If you want to control someone else's iPhone or Mac, this is only possible via FaceTime by obtaining the corresponding permission.

The update they mention is iOS 18.1

According to the comments, The update they might be talking about is iOS 18.1, officially released in October.. What is totally inappropriate is that They have no way to verify it directly, they have no testimony with proof in which it clearly shows what they are (mis)informing.

There is another TikTok video in which he also states that another iPhone could “drop in” using AirDrop to access your sensitive informationespecially in the Wallet application. This is perhaps the origin of Vanessa Romito's video.

The only way AirDrop can be activated when passing one iPhone to another is when sharing the contact card between two users or when transferring a file that a source iPhone wants to share. It is possible to share entry passes, tickets or other types of passes from Wallet but not via AirDrop. Whenever you share credit card information with When making a payment via Wallet, you are first prompted to use Face ID or Touch IDIt is not possible to share credit cards via AirDrop.
