Some cast members of Netflix hit Heartstopper are planning to use their ‘star power’ in order to improve their contracts, reports have suggested.
The romantic comedy-drama, which has just finished its second season, has continued to be a hit with viewers after its breakout first season.
Heartstopper tells the story of Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) as their romantic relationship begins and develops while attending an all-boys school.
The second season has also proved to be a huge success for the streaming platform, with impressive viewing figures supporting rave reviews from critics.
This has apparently caused the show’s ensemble cast to consider their options, with their level of fame having significantly changed since the first episode.

A source has explained the rumoured developments: ‘The cast were all unknown when they landed their roles – they signed contracts worth next to nothing.’

Speaking to The Sun, they continued: ‘No one knew if the show would be a hit and it was a low budget production.’
The contracts apparently locked the cast members in for three seasons if Heartstopper took off and Netflix continued to renew the show.
Under terms rumoured to have been established during the pandemic, season two would see the cast rewarded with a 5% wage increase.

However, the source revealed that ‘even with the increase, the cast are still being paid a fraction of what their star power now commands.’
Since becoming stars off the back of their work on Heartstopper, Kit Connor, Yasmin Finney, and Joe Locke have secured lucrative work elsewhere.
